  • Anne Newton McFadden (she/her)

    President

Anne Newton McFadden is a native of Terre Haute who returned to Indiana after 18 years in Washington, DC. Since the McFadden family’s first summer in Bloomington, Girls Rock Bloomington has been an important part of her daughter Lark’s life. She has loved playing the drums, learning about the music industry and the arts world, and getting to spend time in a supportive, inclusive community of girls, trans and non-binary youth.

When she is not serving as Dean of Students at IU’s Maurer School of Law, you can find Anne listening to music, reading, taking long walks, or hanging out with her 12-year-old Lark, two perfect cat sons Leo and Finch, and husband (and law school colleague) Lane.

  • Cathleen Paquet (she/her)

    Secretary

Cathleen has been playing guitar and bass in various punk and indie rock bands for over 20 years. Having grown up in a very male-dominated music scene, she got sick of being the only girl in the room and moved to Bloomington in 2002 specifically to live among the women and queers she met and felt inspired by while visiting here. She's volunteered with Girls Rock Bloomington since it's beginning in 2019, serving as volunteer coordinator, interim camp director, band coach, and workshop leader. As a member of a now older generation of Bloomington musicians, she's developed organizational and logistical skills from both owning her own small business and working with record labels and event management, and can think of no better way to use those skills than to encourage and pass the torch to the new generation of girls, trans, and non-binary kids.

  • Dev Montanez (she/they)

    Treasurer

Dev moved to Indiana a decade ago from New Brunswick, NJ to join their best friend in Bloomington’s thriving DIY scene. She has spent almost 15 years cultivating inclusive spaces through music festivals, all ages DIY shows, bake sales, east coast tours, research symposiums, and watching the WNBA with friends. Dev is a co-organizer of Bloomington Buffy Prom, an annual fundraiser for All Options, focusing heavily on highlighting musicians who don’t have a lot of experience, and creating a night full of dancing, early aughts tunes, and messages of bodily autonomy. Her mutual aid baking project, Mtn.Dev, and organizing with Bakers Against Racism Bloomington have collectively raised over $5,000 for local causes related to racial equity.  They currently work at the Kinsey Institute at IU as a research administration and operations coordinator, managing multi-year grant proposals and day to day operations.

Dev’s organizing philosophy centers on accessibility, creativity, and community care—values they bring to every late night show or early morning kitchen they’re in.

  • Jenn Cristy (she/her)

Now with six solo albums, Jenn began her career with John Mellencamp, meeting the Hoosier rocker in Bloomington, Indiana, where she was in the midst of an all-American swimming career at Indiana University. During her stint with Mellencamp’s band she proved her versatility, playing flute, piano, percussion, organ, and violin in addition to singing. When she embarked on her solo career in 2003, she wanted to create a sound that both honored all of her varied influences – from Ben Folds to Pink and Bruce Hornsby to Queen – while creating something decidedly original.

It is clear that her music has found a hungry audience. Cristy has played around the country, sharing the stage with a veritable who's-who of artists – Kelly Clarkson, Bob Seger, Pentatonix, Paramore, Shawn Mullins, – or dominating it herself. Her songs have earned praise everywhere from blogs and small-town newspapers to The New York Times. The piano-driven rock is a platform for lyrics that encompass everything from matters of the heart to politics to straight-ahead fun…or murder. In Cristy’s world, every story has a melody.

In addition to Jenn's original music career, she is also owner of One Pulse Entertainment. Launching in 2015, One Pulse is the Midwest's fastest growing entertainment company providing world class productions for audiences nationwide. She is both behind the scenes and on stage for several of these productions. Visit www.OnePulseEntertainment.com for more information and to see where and when these shows will be coming near you!

  • Keight Wrightmire Yang (they/he)

Keight is a therapist who focuses on working with people who identify as LGBTQIA+. They are a proud music school dropout turned DIY music enthusiast and past member of the Bloomington Symphony Orchestra. Throughout their life, they have experienced the importance of equitable access to forms of musical expression firsthand. They experience great joy in working with youth and teens and bring an extensive youth work and social justice-focused background to their skillset as a board member. Keight also really likes dogs, making stuff, and hanging with their kids.

  • Natalia Almanza (she/her/ella)

Natalia is an arts administrator who is passionate about creating accessible pathways to the arts. Upon moving to Bloomington to attend Indiana University, she discovered a passion for developing equitable, public arts-oriented programming. Since 2019, Natalia has worked with Girls Rock Bloomington in various roles and remains inspired by the endless creativity of campers. Natalia is a Program Coordinator at the IU Arts and Humanities Council, and is pursuing a Masters in Arts Administration from the O’Neill School of Public & Environmental Affairs at Indiana University.
